The dream remains for Henrik Lundqvist, lift the Stanley Cup while wearing a Rangers’ sweater.

The franchise goalie enters his sixth NHL season still young at 28 but coming off his longest off-season after the Rangers missed the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

"Every year you have to take it very serious," Lundqvist said prior to the start of last month’s training camp. "Time flies. You don’t have that many years to play. Especially coming from last year, you realize you can’t take it for granted to be there every year and get a chance."

There are certainly no guarantees in 2010-11. The Rangers, who open the season tonight at Buffalo, are not considered among the league’s elite.

But they do have Lundqvist, who last season became the first goalie in NHL history to record at least 30 victories in each of his first five seasons. They also have right wing Marian Gaborik, who established a career high with 86 points in his first season with the team.
